Nina Williams vs. Princess Kitana

Postby Lord Noon on Sun Jul 03, 2011 9:57 pm

CRACK!

[With the dry snap of broken vertebrae, another of the palace's guards collapsed lifelessly to the ground, like a puppet suddenly without strings. Looking back over her shoulder, Nina Williams held her breath and counted to 10...but amidst the six bodies she'd left in her wake, not a move was made, and no-one arrived on the scene to notice their presence. In a complex as large as this, a guard patrol's route is long and winding; it would take another minute, at least, for another group to realise these men weren't in position. And that would be one minute too late.]

[Removing a pair of timed plastique charges from her weapons harness and moving to the nearby door, Nina allowed her mind to wander for a few moments. Today had certainly been an...interesting experience thus far. She got the call from 'his Lordship' about another third-party case that he felt would suit her; an hour later, she was meeting the client at a military base she'd heard was abandoned many years ago. Clearly that was a cover story, as the multiple hidden sensors and cameras indicated the presence of something the army didn't want anyone to find, something underground. "Something I didn't need to worry about," she chided herself then - it wasn't her business to investigate her own clients, no matter how much their activites provoked her curiousity. The client, in this case, was a woman; blonde hair, sharp cheekbones, clearly a powerful body under her fatigues...almost a reflection of Nina from a hall of mirrors, or another life where she'd sworn an oath to another authority. She was clearly holding some sort of important rank within the military judging by the proud, haughty way she held herself, and the disapproving venom in her voice when she uttered the word
"assassin." "Like what the army does is so different from me..." In any case, the job sounded simple enough...until this lady started talking about other 'realms' and 'gods' and all sorts of other crap. It took a good twenty minutes, but eventually they got it boiled down to something simple: another world much like ours, go there, find this person, and bring her back, alive if possible, dead if not. Okay then. And before she could even ask for a transportation of some kind, the client pushed a beeping circular gizmo into her hands...and the next instant, she was here.]

['Here' was Outworld, she'd managed to deduce by chatting to some...gypsies? Or simple homeless folk in a tent. When she asked about her target's whereabouts, they got awful quiet, but one of them muttered about a palace - and there only seemed to be one palace of note on the horizon. Three hours trekking had brought her to its limits, and another fifteen minutes perched on a hilltop with her binocs had located the target's quarters. From there, it had gone like clockwork...]

[Which is why she could feel a trace of sweat forming between her shoulderblades, quickly chilling thanks to the night air. Something always went wrong on a job like this - it was just a matter of when, and how well you recovered from it. "Enough stalling," she thought, and checked over the timers again - yup, no loose wiring, and thirty seconds would be more than enough to get clear. She looked up...and up...at the doors, noting they were easily big enough to let a convoy of supply trucks through - or maybe supply wagons; Nina hadn't seen any technology at all in this world that went beyond medieval, which was certainly strange. How could America - never mind the whole planet - possibly be under threat from a bunch of jokers with spears and arrows? Ridiculous. In any case, that was the job, and these doors weren't going to stand in her way...especially since they weren't even her way in. Nina pressed the activation buttons on both bombs, then darted to the side of the door, and began to scale the wall. It wasn't hard - the gaps between each stone were wide, and served as excellent grip points - but it was high, so she hurried, all the while counting down. "15...14...13..." The roof stuck out from the wall like a Japanese pagoda's, so she turned herself around and wrapped her fingers around its edge - "4...3...2..." - then kicked off from the wall and flipped, letting her arms take the strain and turn her outwards momentum into upwards force, slinging herself vertical...then curling her legs in and landing with both feet on the roof, just as the bombs went off below.]

BOOM!

[The two doors creaked as their mangled shapes lost balance, then crashed outwards to the ground. Before the dust had settled, Nina could hear voices shouting from across the palace, and then a bell ringing from one of the corner towers - an alarm, she presumed. Good. Let them swarm to this point, and leave her to her business. She stood up and looked around, getting her bearings; she was above the north wall of the complex, which put her target's building...there, to the south-east. Running across the rooftops, her heels click-clacking upon the curved tiles as she went, sparing the occasional glance below as the guards ran to repel an imaginary intruder, failing to see her dark combat suit against the inky-black sky. A gap in the rooftops came...]

"Huff - !"

[ - and went, as she leapt over it, landing in a roll to preserve her momentum, and kept going, around the next corner...and then slowed, finally finding what she was looking for. A high window in her target's quarters, far above the floor, probably once part of a skylight or an elevated shooters' position, now shut with wrought iron bars. Nina ducked down and rested her hands upon two of them; they felt rusted, and flaked as her fingers shifted. She had brought a miniature laser cutter in her harness, but the glow might attract the attention of a watchful sentry - luckily, she didn't think she'd need it after all. Flexing her fingers, she wrapped them tight around the bars - then pulled, first with her elbows, then with her shoulders. The concrete around the frame cracked almost immediately, old age having worn down its hold upon the iron, and Nina pulled harder, feeling her biceps strain against the fabric of her combat gear - and the frame popped clear of its moorings. Nina took a quick step back before she overbalanced, and propped the frame against the edge of the window, making sure it was secure and wouldn't fall down to alert anyone before slipping through the gap it left and touching down on a thick wooden beam, part of a whole network of the things supporting the roof. It didn't chift or creak even slightly under her weight. "Another lucky break," she mused darkly, then looked down...and there was the target.]

[As she descended silently down through the beams, moving like she was on a kids' climbing frame, Nina thought over the facts she'd been told. Princess Kitana, heir to the throne of this place - "Outworld," she reminded herself - and daughter of someone...or something...called Shao Khan. Several hundred years old, reportedly, but didn't look it - as Nina herself could now see, the olive-tinged skin of the princess practically glowed with youth, and the muscles that showed predominantly across her torso bore no signs of the ravages of age. Trained as a warrior by her father and king, she went along with his retinue to some sort of tournament held by another tounge-twister of a name, Shang Tsung, which was somehow key to the planet's survival. Word is she got a little close to the eventual winner - and with another tournament coming up, Nina's client couldn't take the risk that the princess might pull a femme-fatale on the reigning champ. So the princess needed to be taken out of the picture, quickly, quietly and with deniability.]

[Touching down on the lowest of the beams, Nina watched as Kitana paced back and forth, clearly anxious, no doubt wondering what all the commotion with the bell was in aid of. Reaching to her side, Nina removed a customised pistol, loaded with tranquiliser rounds, and levelled it towards the princess' raven-haired head...]

[...and then lowered it with an inward sigh. Of course she knew why her real employer was so eager for her to take this job; he wanted a battle. How he even knew this would be the result was beyond her, but she had no doubt he
did know. He always did, one way or another. "Besides, if I miss the first shot with this thing, she'll notice, and then stealth'll be out the window anyway..." Her rationalisation was hollow, but then...she looked down at herself, crouched as she was on the beam, supple form catlike and coiled for action. She was already on the verge of an adrenaline rush after her infiltration, felt no lingering aches and pains from earlier battles - and if she was honest with herself, Nina loved a good fight. Otherwise, the King of Iron Fist Tournament would have been a one-time deal, not a six-time habit.]

[Her mind made up, Nina holstered her tranq-pistol and let herself fall backwards, tipping over as she went and reaching out....so that her hands touched the floor first, spreading out and taking the strain before her body and legs arced down to follow, and landed with a minimum of force and noise. "Show-off," she knew her father would say. Looking up, she found the princess facing the other way - but felt fair play would be more prudent.]

"Hey princess...how ya doin'?"

[The edges of Kitana's fans glittered under the flames cast by the burning torches hanging in their wall sconces. For a split-second, Nina's soul lifted as a stray memory flickered like the last glowing embers in a fireplace; herself and her sister, barely school-aged, playing in the garden with wooden swords, hacking at the tree-branch they pretended was a mighty dragon. And now here she was, in a very real castle, with very real mood-lighting...and a legit princess standing before her. "Ain't life grand sometimes?"]

[Then her professional mind reasserted itself. Up close, it struck her just how tall Kitana was - about half a foot above Nina's own (admittedly small) frame. The haughty mannerisms and stuck-up tone of her voice were likely just an act, perhaps to lull adversaries into a false sense of security. And that body was clearly honed to perfection. Her client hadn't shared much about how she chose to battle, but she did mention the fans - that they were as sharp as any sword, could cut through some of the strongest armour, yet were nearly as light as feathers. "Impressive craftsmanship," thought Nina sourly, wishing she'd remembered to pack an extra blade or five on her weapons harness today. But the cards were dealt, and complaining would gain her nothing at this point. Keeping her eyes fixed on Kitana's gold-rimmed pupils, Nina rose to a standing position, pushing her shoulders back and tilting her chin up in a subtle show of defiance, to remind the princess that her royal position held no sway over her opponent this time.]

"I'll accept your congratulations - but I have no interest in your father. I've come for you, Kitana, and only you. Now..."

[Sliding her feet further apart, Nina shifted her body to the side, and raised her open palms to her face's level, one leading, the other held back defensively. Her neutrally-painted lips curled up into a tight smile.]

"C'mon baby...show me what ya got."

[Nina might have fallen for the feint if she were a little slower - and if her guard position wasn't so naturally high. Luckily, even after taking a half-step back to avoid the cutting edge of a fan strike that never came, she'd kept her hands high, and batted Kitana's boot away as it swung up towards her head. The impact of the princess' foot against her forearm sent a shiver up to her shoulders - as if she needed further proof of the other woman's strength - but didn't hurt.]

[Before Kitana could strike again, Nina ducked and spun, lashing out with a reverse sweep-kick even as she took another step back, clearing some 'thinking space' between herself and her opponent again...]

[Nina wasn't surprised as er sweeping let met nothing but air, though the princess' evasive flip nearly warranted a double-take. She slipped back into her stance as those fans came out again, ready for the next strike...]

[...but Kitana did not pounce as she had before, instead hanging back with her powerful legs coiled under her, ready to spring aside at the first sign of offense. Nina cursed mentally. She didn't like to make the first move and leave herself open, but Kitana was 'turtling' her - "of course, if she can hold me deadlocked long enough, someone will eventually come along to check..." Then that would be it, mission scrubbed. Nina couldn't very well take on the palace's entire regiment AND fight off its troublesome junior monarch. Even she had her limits.]

[So she would have to make the first move, and be careful about it. One mistake, and she could lose a limb to those fans in a heartbeat...which made dealing with them priority 1. Taking a deep breath, Nina ducked her head...and then rushed forwards, quickly reaching out with her right hand to grab one of Kitana's arms at the wrist, even as she pivoted on the spot, turning her back on the princess and bringing the point of her left elbow around, aiming straight for her gut...]

DragonForce wrote:[This girl is for real. I haven't been struck that hard since I sparred with Liu Kang. I need to end this quickly!] Straightening her posture, Kitana pounced towards her opponent, seemingly floating in the air with her right leg aimed at Nina's face.

[Hearing the clattering of one fan dropping to the bare stone floor over her enemy's curse, Nina took a turning step back out of arm's reach, giving herself a brief mental pat on the back for pulling that little stunt off - only to find Kitana already recovered and leaping into the air, with her right foot heading straight towards Nina's head. She raised her arms to block...]

[...just a hair too late.]

"Aaugh - !"

[The kick was firm, turning Nina's vision black for a split-second even as her nose was crushed by Kitana's booted sole. Her pointed heel scraped at the flesh on Nina's chin for good measure, and the assassin could feel herself tipping backwards from the force of the blow. "Christ, she hits like a Mishima - !"]

[Rather than fight it, she decided to use it for her own ends; with her arms already half-up, she raised them higher and secured a two-handed grip around Kitana's right leg before it could retract, then let gravity and her own body weight pull the princess down to the floor, right in position for a heel-hook hold...]

[Nina allowed herself to grin as Kitana fell without a struggle, right into the hold, just as she'd wanted. The princess writhed and struggled as Nina cemented her grip, but it was an amateurish effort, clearly the work of someone who didn't really know what they should be doing - and Nina punished that ignorance as she pulled back on the captured ankle sharply, feeling the leg strain at the upper limits of its flexibility, before Kitana began to shriek, no doubt panicked at the sensation of muscle tissue threatening to tear from its moorings. "Maybe this'll be easier than I thought..."]

[...then Kitana raised the fan again.]

"Shit - "

[Nina tried to twist her own extended leg to the side as her enemy swung the curved and curiously elegant weapon back and forth, but without releasing the hold, she had limited options - and she wanted this leg broken, not just sore...and then the decision was taken out of her hands, as the fan's jagged edges drew a line of searing, fiery pain across her left calf.]

"AH!"

[Before Kitana could swing again, Nina lifted her left leg - wincing as she saw traces of blood dripping in its wake - and then drove the heel down into Kitana's chest, simultaneously releasing her ankle grip and getting ready to move away.]

[Rolling back after releasing her hold, Nina got up on one knee and checked her left leg. Sure enough, the cut was on the inside of her left calf, with the keen edge of Kitana's blade having sliced through the leather of her boot almost without effort. Fortunately, it seemed shallow, although it was still bleeding and looked unlikely to clot. Touching it with one gloved fingertip, she hissed as a fresh spike of pain flared from around the wound - "Stop fucking around and pay attention to the target!" she chided herself then.]

[The sound of heels on the stone floor caught her ear, and she looked up - to find Kitana closing the distance between them almost unnaturally fast. Nina grimaced, and braced herself, rushing to guard even while knowing she'd be too late - and then felt a hand as hard as rock slamming into her breasts.]

"Hurrrngh!"

[The impact was forceful enough to knock her over, and she tumbled over on her sides before coming to rest face-down. She coughed, and a cloud of sand and dust billowed before her half-open eyes. "That was...fun," she mused, and mentally assessed the damage. Her breasts had always been large - too large for her liking - and the one part of her body she couldn't train to be tough; the end result being she had often felt as if she were running around with two big, fleshy targets strapped to her body at all times. Anna had the same problem, and the sisters had come to an agreement long ago not to target such...vulnerable parts of one another in their many duels, and most men didn't dare touch her there for fear of provoking her rage. But clearly Kitana wasn't afraid of such things...]

["She's from another planet, of course she isn't, now stop whining and pull yourself together..." Though it hurt to draw breath and expand her bruised chest, Nina filled her lungs regardless, and stubbornly pushed herself up to her hands and knees...]

[Pushing herself up to rest on her haunches, Nina cast a deliberately bleary-eyed gaze towards the princess, noticing her slitted eyes and the determined set of her jaw behind the blue half-mask stretched across her mouth; she wasn't going to give any quarter over one moment of weakness, clearly. Or she simply saw through Nina's acting, and knew that each second wasted was let Nina recover a little more. Even so, some simple tricks could fool even the smartest warrior - like making eye contact to keep their gaze from seeing something telling, as Nina shifted one leg further back, to prop herself up more effectively.]

[Kitana's leg - the same one Nina had tried to dislocate only moments earlier - tensed with its heel raised off the floor, a movement betrayed by a slight wobble as the princess shifted her weight. It was enough, though, to catch the assassin's senses, and she tightened her shoulders before bringing her arms up - ]

SLAP!

[ - and this time, her speed didn't fail her. It helped also that Kitana aimed low at her gut, rather than high at her chest - and that she'd braced herself, as even blocked the blow rocked Nina back, very nearly toppling her again. Instead, she gripped the offending limb tightly with her left arm - ]

"How about you get down?"

[ - before raising her right arm and bringing its elbow down towards the caught kneecap...]
